RPG Idea

Back in the spring I was playing around with RPG Maker VX Ace.  I ultimately bought the program with the intention of making some RPG’s.  But at the time the only ideas I had were far too grandiose, often needing art assets and music, things which I am not in a position to get.  So I wrote those ideas down with the intention of going back to them one day.

Recently, my laptop has been slowly failing on me.  I’ve borrowed another one for now, and have been slowly transferring things onto it.  Yesterday I decided that I should move RPG Maker, too.  So after I finished my NaNoWriMo writing for the night, I went back to this tutorial (from the RPG Maker website) and started making a map, just for fun.  I decided early on that I wasn’t going to make a village, but there would be one house on the map.  And that house belonged to a witch.  I even made the inside of her house and had her talk to you.  Nothing too special, but it was good fun.  I even loaded the map with my favourite music so I could wander around and listen to it.

But afterwards, when I was trying to sleep, I started thinking.  Who was this witch, who clearly didn’t want you in her house (based off the two lines of dialogue I wrote)?  Who are you and why are you looking for the witch?  With my mind working, I came up with a simple explanation, which lends itself into a story.  And that story will, I think, make a good RPG.  Or at least one that isn’t grandiose, so I’d be able to make it using just what RPG Maker VX Ace has (without extra art assets and whatnot).

So I think this is going to be a busy month for me, if I’m working on this new game idea as well as NaNoWriMo!
